Along the sleepy slopes of a hill known as Plis you will find the small, cozy town of Selca. Due to its position on the hill, Selca offers a breath-taking view of both the sea and the highlands. Tourism and stone cutting are the predominate occupations of the people of Selca.
Selca's local stone masons are able to use raw material to create intricate and beautiful doorways, terraces, staircases and stone balustrades. You will see that the paths and yards of the locals' homes are lined with gravel and stoned slabs, all taken from the stone quarries on the island of Brac. Practically any item you could think of is made from stone in Selca: sinks, kitchen counters, vases, even tables and chairs!
Stone is strong against the elements and thus has secured the preservation of many of Selca's ancient structures to this day. The friendly inhabitants of Selca have been using stone in their daily lives for a long time, ever since the days when they would use it to create ponds to water their animals and draw out boundaries for their land.
The habour of Radonja at Selca features the Jadrokamen Company which employs over 150 people. It is here they create the marble slabs and stone blocks made from the material in the local quarries. Selca's famous habour stone is seen in structures all over the Mediterranean and is what gives the buildings their charm. You can find this charm most abundant in the habour villages around Selca.
Selca has businesses for your day to day needs as well including a dentist, shops where newspapers and postcards can be bought, grocery stores, butchers, and even a few cafe-bars and restaurants.
