On the northern coast of Brac there is a perfectly lovely little town named Pucisca, it even has its own harbour. The town is at the furthest end of a deep bay that divides into two other smaller bays named Stipanska Luka and Puciski Dolac. There are 1706 people in the town, making it one of the biggest on the island. There is a certain rustic ambiance and distinctive Mediterranean qualities in the town.
There is a daily ferry that goes to Pucisca from Split and Makarska. The economy is based on many agricultural and food related items, these include: Cattle-breeding, vine growing, olives, fishing, and other forms of farming. There is also a substantial amount of tourism.
One of the things Pucisca is most famous for is it's stone carving. The three nearby queries of Punta, Veselje, and Kupinovo have produced stone that has been used as far away as the White House in Washington D.C. There are several well known stone carvers that have made their home near and around Pucisca. Three of the most noteworthy of these were Andrija Alesi, Juraj Dalmantinac, and Nikola Firentinac.
There are many great places to stay in Pucisca due to its beautiful, isolated bay. For this reason it is very popular with the tourists. Built on the site of the former Palace Deskovic, near the parish church, you can find the recently opened family Hotel Deskovic. Also, in the heart of town you can find the Hotel Porat, one of the best places to stay on the island.
You can also find great places to visit including pizzerias, ice cream shops, taverns, a copious amount of cafés and many fine dining establishments. The recreation possibilities are near endless with several small bays that have gorgeous pebble beaches where you have the space and time to truly kick back and relax.
The many picturesque locations near the town make it worth a visit alone, you can definitely enjoy the ideal, pleasant family holiday in Purcisca. The main tourist center is in Bol, but there are many of other great places including Postira, Sumartin, Povlja, and Praznice. Definitely make sure you don't forget to visit the amazingly beautiful beach at Zlatni Rat.
