On the west side of the island, the village of Mirca is just 3 km north of Supetar heading up the island of Brac's main road toward the town of Sutivan. The village is one of tradition where its inhabitants cultivate grapes and other fruit, and its quaint, rustic Mediterranean ambiance is still intact. The oldest and most charming part of the village is just south of the main road. With a recent growth spurt, Mirca has started moving towards the sea where there used to be only vineyards and a cemetery.
People from the town of Sutivan originally founded the village of Mirca in the 16th century. In 1579 the Brkovic and Berticevic families built the local parish church known as "Our Lady of Mirca," and it is known for its 19th century baroque additions that can also be found in many other churches on the island of Brac.
Many more recent additions have also been popping up in the area, such as a new quay in the harbor of Gumanca, a renovated olive mill, and many holiday cottages spreading from the pine woods into the recently vacated vineyards. With its perfect balance of rural life and tourist attractions, the village of Mirca has managed to hold onto its traditional roots without staying stuck in the past. The Croatian poet Tin Ujevic was known to have loved the village of Mirca.
Mirca has numerous pebble beaches' that are surrounded by pine woods where young children can safely play in the shallows, and parents can enjoy the stunning views. Brac's main ferry port, Supetar, as well as the island's beautiful nature preserves and beaches, are the perfect distance from Mirca to make the village your family's perfect spot for a quiet vacation.
The village is also an excellent destination for those who want to learn more about traditional island living on Brac. There are many excellent destinations on the island that you can visit, such as Sutivan, Supetar, Milna and Bol, and Vidova Gora - the highest mountain of all the Adriatic islands and the one place you can get a perfect view of the Dalmation islands. The famous Zlatni Rat beach, near the town of Bol, is just below this peak, which only adds to its wondrous view.
